Connecting Communities, Empowering Change

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Kigali Seniors

About Us

The Rotary Club of Kigali Seniors (RCKS) was chartered in February 2022 by a group of retired professionals led by its first President, Gerald Mpyisi. The Club’s name reflects its mission to keep retirees active and engaged, inspired by a similar club in Maharashtra, India. RCKS is a vibrant community of 38 Rotarians, including 15 Paul Harris Fellows – dedicated to making significant contributions to our community. Club members meet on the first and third Thursday of each month at Crown Conference Hall in Nyarutarama, at 6:30pm.

Our Story

The Rotary Club of Kigali Seniors (RCKS) is based in Kigali, Rwanda, and was chartered on 19 March, 2022. The Club’s first President, referred to in Rotary as the Charter President (CP), was Gerald Mpyisi. This was followed by the second Club President Andrew Rugege on 23 March, 2023 followed by President Aimable Rumongi on 26 July, 2024.

Many wonder about the name of the club – Kigali Seniors. There are thousands of Rotary Clubs in the world but only two have the word Seniors in the name. One is in Maharashtra, India and the other is ours – the Rotary Club of Kigali Seniors.

In late 2021, the Club’s Charter President Gerald Mpyisi, a retired businessman, contacted his friends who were also in retirement and suggested they find a reason to bring them together regularly, to socialize and remain relevant. As the Charter President was a Rotarian, he suggested forming a Rotary Club. Even those who knew nothing about Rotary were happy to join in meaningful and social activities and today, the the Club has 40 dedicated Rotarians with nine Paul Harris Fellows. The Club has implemented several projects and continues to contribute to the community and to advance the Rotary humanitarian mission.

Message from Our President

Amb. Joy Mukanyange

President (2025)

“The theme of this year is ‘Empowering Communities, Transforming Lives.’ Our 2025-2026 strategy will focus on continuing and expanding projects such as supporting teenage mothers through vocational training programs, covering tuition, and providing tools. We will also assist those who wish to return to school and expand these initiatives beyond the Byumba Catholic Diocese to reach communities nationwide through strategic partnerships. In all this, we are guided by our national vision to empower citizens and help them break free from poverty.

As members of the Rotary Club Kigali Seniors, we will also prioritize combating child stunting by working closely with Gasabo District to support existing programs and ensure our efforts make a meaningful difference in children’s lives. We will recruit and train new and current members to strengthen our club’s capacity. Together, we will continue to build on the government’s vision of creating a healthy, resilient, inclusive, and prosperous society, while promoting a peaceful and cohesive community.”
